Liquid Helium Generator
GWR Instruments, Inc. introduces a simple, reliable, and inexpensive method for producing and storing liquid helium at any location. The liquefier consists of a GM cryocooler, helium compressor, liquefaction chamber, ultra-efficient storage Dewar, and smart controller. The 4-Kelvin cryocooler resides in the neck of the Dewar where it liquefies the gas. The liquid can be stored in the Dewar's belly either for short periods of time or indefinitely until needed. A custom designed helium transfer tube is used to transfer the liquid to the operator's equipment. This combination of simple operation, field serviceability, low power consumption and low-cost represents a major advance in helium liquefiers.

The helium gas used does not need to be high purity and can be supplied either from industrial grade gas cylinders or from recovery balloons. A typical 244 cubic foot gas cylinder generates 9.8 liters of liquid helium. Helium can therefore be shipped and stored as gas until needed. This eliminates the high loss rates and high costs that normally accompany using liquid helium as a coolant.
These extremely reliable systems operate with very little maintenance. Scheduled maintenance consists of swapping the coldhead annually and exchanging the compressor adsorber every two years. These procedures can be performed in the field without special training.

Two standard models are available. The LHG-30 has a storage capacity of 30 liters and can liquefy 3 liters / day with a 2KW He compressor. The LHG-60 has a storage capacity of 60 liters and can liquefy 6 liters / day with a 4KW He compressor. Custom configurations are available per customer requirements.
